The only reason Rockstar is in trouble is that they lied about the existence of the code in the game and tried to shift blame to the modding community. If they had just come out and been upfront, told everyone that no one was ever supposed to see it and they couldn't remove it before print for whatever reason it the heat would have dissapated much quicker and congress would have minded their own damn business. But no, they lied, blamed it on modders, and firmly planted their tushies in the fire. Way to go rockstar! I love the GTA games, but c'mon.
That's the worst of it I fear, politicians sticking their noses into games as if they understand them, the people that play them, or the economics that drive them. So it's likely the result will be anything but good.
Additionally: any parent, group, etc.. that at this point and time cries foul at the content of a GTA games needs to be smacked with a halibut. The series has been out how long, with supreme moral, not to mention condescending and arrogant, outrage at every turn of a new game? If they didn't know what the series was about by now, then they really need to pay attention.
Unfortunately, paying attention is what most of these ultra sensative "how Dare They!" types rarely do, otherwise how'd lil jimmy get GTA? Or the guns and pipe bombs? Or the drugs? Man we need to hire that lil jimmy for the cia cause he's a slippery fish he is. And the argument that "insert game/music/yadda" made me do it is nothing more than someone trying to excuse horrid behavior, but what's more disgusting is the idiots that buy the excuse and shreek that it's not the persons fault and try to sue/ban/censor the item used as an excuse instead of locking up the evil little jerk who commited the crimes and punishing the parents for outright negligence.
Now before anyone stands up with the parents work routine, so freaking what?! I had two parents that worked and I couldn't pull jack **** because they knew I was a little demon. They asked questions, and paid attention like they were supposed to, they actually raised me and taught me right from wrong instead of hopeing sitcoms, cartoons, and the government would do it. When I was invariably caught I was spanked, grounded, worked, etc... you know discipline. Another thing many parents can't seem to be bothered with. My parents, believed teachers if they told them i was goofing off in class instead of threatening them. They beleives the adults as opposed to the kid who would readily lie to avoid consequences as 99.9% of all kids do. Now, everyones kids is a freaking angel, incapable of lipping off, bullying, or behaving badly, and it's always such a surprise when the truth comes out. Gah, i'm ranting.... sorry. It's just time for people to be personally responsible for a change and stop blaming everything else for thier woes or behavior.
